Hurley is learning a new trick. Too bad he can’t shut the kennel door from the inside.
Just a minute ago he seemed excited about flinging around a bunch of corn.
This post courtesy of my new iPhone. I heart it.
We went to the Edmonds dog beach yesterday to test out Hurley’s newly discovered swimming skills. He is still timid from the waves and the steep drop off, so he wasn’t willing to swim out far to fetch his balls. We quickly lost three tennis balls to the tides.
We then tried to get him to fetch small pieces of driftwood we found laying on the beach, which wasn’t as interesting to him. However, on one of his trips out, he found a floating log, which he managed to pull back into shore. We threw it back out, and he fetched it several more times.

Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera so the above pictures and the following video are from my camera phone.
So, the pictures show a typical morning of Hurley trying to entertain himself. I’ve pretty much given up on the chase and obviously still don’t do a great job of managing where I put things. So, at least it’s not dynamite, but toliet paper, kleenex, 2x4s and tennis ball containers, sometimes all in the same brief morning. I’ve taken the pictures for my sanity.
Hurley was quite proud of himself for snagging a container of tennis balls! Here’s my first poor attempt at a video while trying to avoid surprises in the grass.
Hurley turned one year old on April 16, 2009. Here is a collection of some our favorite photos from the past year.
